Indépendantes de Cœur is the work of Valériane Venance. Rather than conforming bodies to a single ideal, her designs work in dialogue with them, allowing multiplicity to be seen and celebrated.

The name Indépendantes de Cœur is drawn from the 19th-century courtesan Valtesse de la Bigne, who declared herself "independent of heart" despite societal judgement. Each garment carries a stitched heart motif: both protective talisman and declaration of love for humans and their bodies.

Venance studied at Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris before moving to London. Alongside her collections, she develops custom pieces for editorial projects with stylist Ellie Grace Cumming, for brands such as Comme des Garçons, and for performers including Anohni, Allie X, The Horrors, and Arca.

Her work has been featured in Dazed, i-D, British Vogue, AnOther, Numéro Berlin, Document Journal, Luncheon, and GQ, and photographed by Anton Tammi, Sarah Piantadosi, Elisaveta Porodina, and Pierre & Gilles.
